5 Things

One of our first assignments at school was to put 5 items that help identify us as being who we are in a brown lunch bag. My first thought was that I could not possibly be defined by only 5 items that would fit in a lunch bag – I am soooo much more than that, but I played by the rules and complied.

Item 1: Iron Golem action figure from Minecraft – this is my obsession right now. I’m all about Minecraft. My folks thought they would get a few more years out of me before I became fixated on video games, but they need to realize the times they are a changin’ and us kids are growing up faster (and have more expensive taste).

Item 2: Paintbrush because I love to paint and want to be an artist when I get older. I know I need to learn the various techniques out there and find my own personal style, but for now it is a way I can be creative and not feel inhibited.

Item 3: Golf ball because right now this is my favorite sport and one I am pretty good at for just starting out. It’s also great quality time for me and my dad.

Item 4: Picture of me and Phoebe who was the best and sweetest cat ever. She’s in heaven now, but I dream about her from time to time so I know she is trying to say hello to me.

Item 5: Picture of my favorite meal – Campisi’s pizza with double Candian Bacon. To me, there is nothing better.

While I would need a bigger bag to give the full picture of who I am, these should help give a little insight.

Folk(‘s)-Art

Another year of bring my lunch to school means another year of baggie artwork from my folks. They just don’t know what they started because now I along with several of the kids at my lunch table can’t wait to see what the art d’jour will be so there is NO WAY they can stop now. I bet in hindsight they wish they would have just written a simple sweet little note or a joke on a piece of paper instead of trying to re-create a different scene on a plastic bag each day.

1 Down 30 Something To Go

So the first week of school is over. So far being a 2nd grader is so much tougher than being a 1st grader – it’s like double as hard. We have homework due every week opposed to once a month, spelling tests every week, and the math problems are way bigger – good thing I’ve been working on my multiplication tables and simple division.

So the awesome high points to 2nd grade are:

(1) My teacher – she’s so nice and sweet to me. I’m sure she’s sweet to the other kids, but does it really matter as long as she’s nice to me???

(2) My hommie Andrew is in my class again so we get to kick it all year again. I saw him a lot over the summer, but I like to hang with him during lunches, after school, and when we have to partner up for stuff in school.

(3) We have lockers this year. I’m not quite sure why they call them lockers though because they don’t lock – we don’t have to memorize a combination like they do in high school so I guess we’re lucky.

(4) The first week was only 3 days long for me – I was sick on Thursday and Friday because all the other kids thought it was bring-your-germs-to-school week. That part wasn’t fun, but staying home for two days was. Wonder what I can figure out to do next week.

My first day as a 2nd grader (kinda)

So while I’m not actually in school, I’m no longer a 1st grade which means by default I’m now a second grader. I just wanted to say that I had the best teacher in 1st grade – Ms. Phelps. She was awesome! She was so sweet and kind to me – that’s all that really matters. She was also very encouraging and comforting to me – perfect style for my personality. I asked my folks if I could stay in 1st grade forever because I am going to miss having her as my teacher 😦 Hopefully, she will prep my next teacher on how to handle me with care 🙂 If she doesn’t, I know Mrs. Holderman (Principal) will take care of me and give me the hook up.

I learned a lot of academics over the year that will serve as a great base for me in future classes, but I also learned that I am stronger than I thought I was and that I can overcome. When I fully understand what this really means, everyone better hang on or get out of the way because I will not stop.

Oh, before I end this I thought I would include some more baggy art from the school year.

Check back for summer updates.

#TBT

For #TBT today we are going all the way back to 8/26/13 – the first day of 1st grade. Why? because today is the last day of 1st grade, baby! Now, there’s a 2nd grader up in here!! Woot, woot!!

May, I say

So yes, it’s been a while since I’ve posted last. In fact, I haven’t posted the whole month of May. Why? Because ever since I turned 7 and started the first grade, my schedule has been booked. And now that May is over, that means the school year is almost over, too. Yep, about to be a 2nd grade up in here…holla-atcha boy!

So what have I been busy with? Well, here are some pics of some of the activities…

FIELD TRIP – As a class, we went to the Perot Museum for our annual field trip. It was awesome – lots of dinosaurs and science stuff – too much to get in on one field trip. I got to hang with my homie Andrew and both my folks went along so that made it even better.

FIELD DAY – As a reminder, we have Field Day every year, but it isn’t like the Field Days of old where there were competitions with winners and losers. These are fun activities for the kids. Now, everyone has their opinion on the Wussification of America, but the bottom line is that us kids had a great time so bite on that – was that anti-wuss enough for you? During our Field Day, we got to play and have fun at different activities for most of the morning so the teachers had no luck getting our attention for the rest of the day.

Snake Live

It just dawned on me, I never posted a picture from our Snake Live event at school. It is normally called Friday Live, but this time our extremely cool Principal was going to kiss a snake. Why? Because we met our pledge goal for our Boosterthon run and she promised if we did, she would kiss a snake in front of us. I have to give her props because there is no way I would kiss a snake because it might swallow me whole like a impala.

Check out the pics and my dancing in the video – you need to be patient because some kids and teachers get in the way of seeing me, but I’m worth waiting for.

Some of daddy’s favorite moments are at :16 and :24 so enjoy!

Ziploc® Chic

So I’ve  been taking my lunch to school just about every day for nearly two school years and not one sweet note from my folks to let me know they love me and/or thinking about me and/or they care!! Then, one day a couple of weeks ago, I was really not wanting any part of going to school – I mean I figured if I didn’t go to school again, I would always have my folks to live with and that’s fine with me. But as soon as I proposed that, they went on about me growing up and not wanting them to be around and me getting married – which again I said we would live with them. Then, they started on about baby birds being thrown out of the nest and it was up to them to fly or crash to the ground – not sure where they were going with that, but I do know a little thing called adverse possession (squatter’s rights) exists.

Anyway, I opened my lunch that day and I saw more than a note! It was a silly drawing on my sandwich bag. It totally surprised me and totally made me smile. Not sure if this was suppose to be a one time deal, but it appears as long as I keep telling them how much I like it and ask what’s next the baggies keep showing up with a different surprise every day.
