March Birthdays

I wanted to acknowledge some of my March Birthday peeps – they also happen to be my family.

A walk in the park

So I’ve been on a bit of a health kick lately. I’ve tried to eat more lean meets and fish, eat more fruit which I love, and reduce my empty calories although anyone who has had Skittles will tell you that those calories are loaded with flavor – experience the rainbow – Hungrybear9562 would dig it I bet. I’ve also talked my folks into walking with me every day – not because I idolize Forrest Gump or anything, but so I can get my cardio in and they can look like responsible parents by making sure I get plenty of exercise. We usually take a different route every day so we can explore and see what else is out there. Yesterday daddy and I were roaming the streets of of our hood with our best west side walk (not quite a Crip Walk, but still gets you noticed) and we came across a new little park in one of the nearby neighborhoods. It didn’t have swings or anything, but it did have slides, tic-tac-toe, and mulch I could play in and make a mess. Needless to say, I will be going back.

Spring has sprung

So it’s been a little while since I posted last. Apologies, but I’ve been kind of busy with school, the fam, X-men training, etc.  – my bad.

So the first day of Spring is here and Spring Break is over so that means it’s time for me to plant my flowers – my spot is around the tree. Daddy’s not one for yard work and says that we are doing this by choice and to be zen, not because we are giving into the man – whatever that means. Anyway, Grannie picked me up on this beautiful day so we could get the right ones to complete my vision. Pickins (said in my best country twang a la mommy) were slim since everyone was thinking the same thing as I was, but I think I got the perfect ones. Now, I just have to remember to water them so they don’t die the first week….again.

This is my mean old flower pulling face

Diego yard gloves - can you dig it

Fruits of my labor

BTW here are a couple of other pics I took since I was out of communicado.

my silly face after picking a nice yellow flower for mommy (yes it's a weed)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANNIE!!!!!

Today is my Grannie’s birthday. She absolutely rocks and I love her so much – 199 times.

This is some video of her co-workers singing to her. They know she’s special, too.

Can I get an AMEN?!

Here’s part of my nightly routine – that includes pulling out all my books to see which ones I want to read so pardon the mess. While I may not be John the Baptist or anything, I am getting better at saying the big words of the Lord’s Prayer. I may also get distracted in the middle, but I am only 4 years old so shiny things interest me.

Right were I want him

So it’s just me and daddy chilling at home tonight making strawberry shortcakes because mommy is working. That obviously makes for a good time together, but I thought I would take the opportunity to make sure my weekend goes like I want it to go – you divide and conquer. So here’s how our conversation went:

Me: Do you know what I want to be when I grow up?

Daddy: A fireman. (That’s what I always tell him.)

Me: Nope.

Daddy: A policeman?

Me: Nope.

Daddy: A pilot?

Me: Nope.

Daddy: I don’t know. What?

Me: A dad (said in my sweetest voice with the sweetest smile on my face).

Daddy: Aaahhhhh!!

Hook line and sinker….divide and conquer….game, set, match….That was all it took for me to ensure I get what I want this weekend. Now, that may have been taking advantage of the warmest spot in daddy’s heart, but you got to make your own luck in this world.

I love you, daddy!

Hard Knock Life

At school this week, my teacher gave me a Scholastic Book Club order form that my folks could order books for me from at a pretty cheap price. When I took it home and daddy saw the form, he said it was a blast from the past and made him think about when he was little and he would get the same order forms. He told mommy how he remembers all the kids being real excited to get the forms because they would usually get all the books they wanted. He said that he was able to order books every now and then, but not as many or as often as the other kids because money was always a factor.

See, he was raised in a single parent home and his mommy didn’t always have spare cash to get him everything the other kids had. He recalls feeling somewhat envious at times because like any kid, he wanted more and more. He was quick to point out that one thing he never felt was unloved. Grannie made sure he knew he was the most important person in the world and her number one priority. While this was obviously more important than anything, it was difficult to a child having to watch all his friends get real excited when the books were delivered in a big brown box while he sat there and tried to peak at what they got.

Fast forward to today, daddy told mommy this story while holding back emotions. He vowed (he stopped short of pulling a Scarlett O-Hara, “As God is my witness….nor any of my folk….“) that I would not be the kid that doesn’t get a book when the big brown box comes in. Whenever we get an order form, we are ordering something.

Fast forward to 2 minutes after my daddy regressed to that young little boy with no books….vulnerable….emotional…..mommy said, “Didn’t you go to private school?? Was it hard not having a driver drop you off?? Or have a butler carry your books to your classes?? You made it sound like there were going to be Christmas Shoes or a Pickle Jar in the story. You’re talking about not getting books. I think me growing up in Mesquite has you beat.”

So it seems daddy and Little Orphan Annie and Oliver Twist don’t have as much in common after all. As a matter of fact, it sounds like daddy has more in common with Ricky Stratton than anyone else. Sorry dad, that was one of the worst sob stories I’ve ever heard in my 4+ years, but thanks for the books.

Update from Snow Week 2011

So once the sun came up on Day 4, it wasn’t so bad. Mommy, daddy, and I wrapped up good and headed outside to play in the snow. It was cold, but I don’t think any of us wanted to come back inside because we had so much fun getting out of the house. We must have played for 1.5 hours. Anyway it was great to get out. Here are some of vids from the day. I think my favorite is where daddy repeats mommy’s line of the day….”That’s a good ass angel.”
