Turkey day at school

We had our Thanksgiving Feast at school the other day. I was very excited about it because daddy was able to come eat with me and we were going to go through the lunch line for the first time. I have always been nervous to go through the line by myself, but this time I was going to be able to show daddy how it was done so I had all the confidence in the world. I even got to pay for daddy’s lunch with my school card – it’s not a black card from Amex just yet, but it gets me by.
The food left a little to be desired, but all in all it was fun and we also got to dress in “clothes” we designed ourselves out of paper bags – although it was Native American garb so I may have been on the wrong end of that deal.

Crossing the picket line

My daddy isn’t particularly political in the sense he doesn’t attend conventions or fundraisers for any particular political party, but he is strong in his beliefs. One of those beliefs is his stand against Chick-Fil-A for their view on gay marriage. He knows everyone is allowed their opinion and he appreciates that liberty, but he also appreciates his right to patronage any business he chooses for whatever reason. Without getting too political in this post, he has been boycotting Chick-Fil-A since all the hoopla broke about their CEO saying marriage was between man and woman, essentially saying gay marriage was wrong – otherwise, why state what is already legally in place?
Well, my school partners with certain restaurants/fast-food places where we send all of our students’ families there to eat and my school gets a certain amount of the proceeds. It just so happens that the other day the partner was the dreaded Chick-Fil-A. My mommy was working and I really wanted to go to see if any of my classmates were there so that left daddy and his principles. He stayed silent hoping I wouldn’t mention it again, but I wanted to go. Daddy finally said that he would take me because me wanting to socialize and see kids in my class and build relationships was so important that he was willing to put his own beliefs on hold in order to not stunt my social development.
So off to Chick-Fil-A we went….I didn’t see anyone I knew, but I sure did love the grilled chick nuggets. That was one of my daddy’s biggest fears – I would like something there and since I am so picky when it comes to food, I would want to add that to the rotation. I do like it a lot so daddy may have some figuring out to do.

All but $3,250 of those contributions went to Republicans, all of whom held anti-gay marriage views.

Angry Halloween

Halloween is quickly becoming my favorite holiday – just like mommy. The first couple of years, I didn’t really get into Halloween like I do now. Now, I love decorating the house and yard and carving pumpkins. I also know that I have to say trick or treat loud so I can get some candy from strangers – I’m getting better at that and we had lots of practice this Halloween because we walked all over the neighborhood. This year’s theme for the family was Angry Birds – I was yellow bird, mommy was blue bird, grannie was king pig, and daddy was red bird.

Bear of the Month

October was a great month and perhaps the best on record. Why? Because I was the Bear of the Month at my school…technically, I was one of the Bears of the Month for my Kindergarten class, but the way I prefer to see it was I was THE Bear of the Month. Some may think that this is just something that cycles through the students and that everyone will be at one point or another, but I contend that the math doesn’t work (I sound like Obama there don’t I?). The first clip below shows me accepting my award at our monthly Spirit Day…along with some others that don’t need to be mentioned. Note: I am the only one holding my award up right and waving at mommy, grannie, and daddy.
The second clip shows our school doing the Thriller dance because we were getting ready for Halloween. And for the record, I do know the Thriller dance, I just exercised my right as an American to abstain from acting like a dancing monkey like the other 500 kids in the gym – even though deep down I kinda want to be one of the dancing monkeys, too.

My first rave

Music pumping, bass thumping, people dressed up in costumes, and glow sticks waving in the air – that was the scene Friday night at my school’s rave. School officials actually called it a Storybook Ball, but us kids preferred to call it a rave. We were suppose to wear a costume from a book and I wasn’t going to go, but at the last minute I decided to go so daddy had to dig up last year’s Batman costume because my costume this year isn’t from a book. I’m glad I decided to go because I had a blast and got to get my groove on.
I’m the blue and grey Batman in the middle of the pack. You can see me real well about 30 seconds into the video.

All’s Fair with love and Grannie!

One Dallas tradition that I hadn’t taken part in yet was the annual trek down to the State Fair of Texas….that is until this year when Grannie treated her favorite little boy to the annual event – that’s me!
I wasn’t exactly sure what the Fair was going to be like, but daddy and mommy said it was going to be like Pleasure Pier in Galveston, only bigger. I was pumped and ready to be on my best behavior so I could be spoiled by Grannie – and she didn’t disappoint.
My mission for the Fair was simple – have fun, ride some rides, see some animals, and win enough stuffed animals for mommy, daddy, and me – mission accomplished. I had a blast. I got to see Big Tex which has been around for longer than Grannie has been around. She told me she remembered seeing him as a kid and that daddy saw him when he was a kid. When we got there, we didn’t waste much time getting down to business – we spotted the roller coaster and we were going to ride. Grannie said I didn’t have anything to worry about, but she forgets she’s not 6 anymore and little metal carts flying around on temporary railing at terminal velocity speeds is a little something to worry about, but by the time I pieced all this together it was too late – I was strapped/trapped in and ready to go. I didn’t scream one bit, but I didn’t like it one bit either. Grannie, on the other hand, loved it and screamed the whole time (wonder where daddy gets it from). Needless to say, I had trust issues the rest of the day – with Grannie and any ride that claimed to be fun. So this left us with plenty of tickets to play games.
We played all kinds of games and for the most part the carnies made sure I would win a little something at least. Of course, all the money we gave them helped. I walked away with a hippo, duck, giraffe, bear, Scooby, balloon, and more and Grannie had to carry them all – even on the roller coaster.
One thing we did while we were there was look at all kinds of animals – they were kinda smelly. And we saw some little piggies race – that was so funny. Our piggy, Forest, came in last even though we were all yelling, “Run, Forest, run!”
After the Fair, Grannie and I were so tired, but already talking about next year’s outing to the Fair.
