Back to School

So today was my first day in big kid public school. If you recall, I was a “redshirted” kindergartener so I may be a little more mature than some of the other kids, but I was still nervous about the first day because I didn’t know anyone or what to expect. All I could do is remember I am a brave big boy and focus on the new experiences I was in store for. Turns out, it was all pretty cool.

First, I had to wake up super early to make sure I was on time to school. This is something I haven’t had to do in over 3 months so I was dragging a bit. Next, mommy and daddy walked me to school. Actually, mommy walked and daddy scooted along on his roll-about because of his broken leg. It  was kind of funny looking, but he didn’t want to miss out on my first day so he didn’t care about looking foolish.

When we finally got to school, it was like a scene out of Grease 2 (not as good as Grease 1, but still awesome) – music blaring from large speakers, chatter from all the kids and parents, people flocking to the doors, teachers corralling the kids, and we even had a flag raising – a lot of stimuli for sure. The school was full of parents dropping their kids off, especially my room since we were all Kindergarteners. There were a lot hugs and kisses, but not too many tears – none with me or my folks – I stayed strong for them since they are kinda sad I’m growing up.

Anyway, I put my backpack up, lunch up, snack up, and plopped right down at my table were I was joined by two honeys – Danni and Juliette. The bell rang and school was officially back in session. The first day was a lot of learning how things were going to work and I think I have it down, but there are times when it changes, e.g., we have Music on Mondays, PE on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Art on Thursdays. I really enjoyed music. I can’t wait until I get to play some of the instruments. I already told mommy and daddy I wanted to play the tuba so they better get ready.

The day kind of flew by and before I knew it, mommy was there to walk me home. I think I am going to dig this big kid school thing after all.
