Anyway, we decided to go to the drive-in with Grannie. I love the drive-in, but one thing I can always count on is daddy singing Alone at the Drive-in from Grease in his best Travolta voice….stranded at the drive-in, branded a fool, what will they say Monday at school….

Another reason we went to the drive-in was so Grannie and I could see Happy Feet 2 and mommy and daddy could see The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (this is one of daddy’s guilty pleasures so don’t make fun of it – and don’t make fun of 90210, past or present, because that is another one of his guilty pleasures).

I’m glad we did it this way because that allowed daddy and mommy to save some dignity. Going to the drive-in also helped daddy not look like a creepy old guy going to this movie in an actual theater with 200 little 16 year-old girls. It also kept me out of the middle of the whole Team Edward vs. Team Jacob battle that mommy and daddy have been in since the first Twilight movie – daddy is Team Edward and mommy is Team Jacob – talk about mixed marriages…..

Anyway, they say their movie rocked and are already counting down to part 2. So as a whole, movie night was awesome all around. Thank you mommy, daddy, and Grannie.

9/11 Memorial at the site of the Twin Towers

I wasn’t alive 10 years ago, but my mommy and daddy remember how life was before and after America fell victim to the largest attack on civilians on U.S. soil. They remember learning words that before the Towers fell meant nothing , but became synonymous with loss, hurt, and hate – jihad, Al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden. But mommy and daddy also remember the words that became synonymous with pride, hero, and hope – FDNY, NYPD, United We Stand. They know that my world will be different from their world just as theirs was different from their parents’, but they wrestle with how to teach me evil forces exist without fostering fear or prejudice. Then again, that’s the challenge for all Americans.

Anyway, the movie was plenty funny. Daddy and I literally laughed out loud several times – birds dancing and shaking their booty, funny faces, birds bouncing off booties, a bulldog that drools like my papa Kolias’ dog, etc. There weren’t any real scary or loud parts so nothing made me really jump except once when something jumped out I wasn’t expecting. All the colorful animals and colors of the Rio de Janeiro setting really kept me interested so I think it would hold the interest of most kids my age . It did have a little romance, but not quite a chick flick so my rep is intact of being a boy’s boy.

Overall, we gave the movie two thumbs up.
